Originally both from St. John’s, the two now live in Buffalo, NY where Becki, a graphic designer by trade and self-taught photographer, produces their YouTube videos and manages all social media. Meanwhile, Chris is an interventional radiologist (IR) and helicopter pilot. Together they share their experiences with the world through well presented pieces highlighted by their real conversations and laughter to bring it all together for monumental clips of videography.
Becki and Chris took a moment to chat with Tint via email for a Q and A.
How did you meet? Becki: We met in Mr. Warren’s art class in Gonzaga back in 2003!
Where have you lived? Becki: We grew up in St. John’s, Chris spent half of his childhood in Texas before moving to Newfoundland. We lived in Vancouver for one year and then moved to Buffalo. We’ve been here for just over one year.
Do you ever plan to return home ? Becki: We will definitely return home for visits but I don’t think we will ever move home. There aren’t a lot of job opportunities for Chris. Being away from family is the absolute hardest, and we definitely miss our house and the ocean.
What advice do you have for aspiring you tubers? Becki: A lot of people overthink the gear, their skill level, and worry about no one watching their videos. You just need to start with what you have, put in the work, and your skills will improve. Don’t look at the numbers until you have a year’s worth of work. I have seen a lot of people do youtube for a month, see no growth and quit. If it’s something you want you need to commit. Overall I think being yourself is the biggest key to enjoying YouTube.

Is it important for you to make your home particular to your tastes? Becki: For us, it is so important to have our space match our tastes and have the right vibe and energy. I work from home and spend 90% of my time there so I like to surround myself with things I love and things that inspire me.
As you move you tend to renovate – is that stressful or fun? Or both? Becki: It’s definitely both, but I think mostly fun. The larger more difficult projects can be stressful and time consuming but ALWAYS worth it in the end.

You’ve reached over 100,000 subscribers – what does that type of milestone mean to you? Becki: We always tell people not to look at the numbers, but it’s also important to celebrate milestones. It’s pretty cool to know that people like what we are creating and it’s nice to see recognition for hard work, but we would still be doing it if we only had 1000.
Chris- you decided to start vlogs with your job and training- why did you decided to do that and how is that process going ? Chris: We realized that interventional radiology was a mystery to everyone so we wanted to educate the public on what we can do, show them that doctors are real people too, but we also want to inspire younger students to consider IR as a career. The channel is going well but it’s hard to find time to be consistent as myself and Dr. Jon are very busy trying to build the practice and are not often together during the day. Even if we only post one video a month, it’s worth it reading some of the messages from people who have reached out saying we’ve helped them with an ailment they have been living with for years or that they’re inspired to pursue a career in IR.

You own a helicopter !!? You can fly? Chris: I took my first intro flight over NYC in 2015, and fell in love with the idea of being able to fly. I acquired my commercial license during our year in Vancouver. I always dreamed of owning my own helicopter and have been fortunate enough to be able to get one last year!
What is your favourite place to shoot photography? Becki: I haven’t been to a lot of countries, but two of my favorite places to shoot so far are Tofino, BC and anywhere in Arizona.
What was your favourite episode ? Becki: The Tofino episode is our favourite, even though there is so much that could have been improved, the trip was one of our favourite ones yet even though it rained the entire time.
What’s your favourite room to renovate? Becki: All of them!! Haha no, they are all fun to renovate, I think bedrooms and living spaces are the easiest, but kitchens and bathrooms have the most dramatic before and afters.

You’ve moved a bit away from renovations- would you say you have a sole focus now ? Becki: We don’t really have a focus, we started in home renovations and ended up in travel because we didn’t have a project to renovate while in Vancouver. Now we do helicopter and travel videos, photo and video tutorials, and home decor videos. We like to make content about what we love and what we are doing at the time. The renovation stuff will definitely be making a comeback!
How do you keep up- with work and life and editing ? Becki: Chris works full time so I do all the editing. I work part time from home so I am able to divide my time to make everything work. I made a commitment in 2016 to make a video a week for 4 months and after that 4 months it was part of my weekly routine. It’s easy to keep up with it when you enjoy the whole process.
How do you guys have fun outside of your videos? Becki: We go on dates a lot. We love traveling and eating, and we love binging on Netflix series and movies if we can stay awake long enough. Also spa days… we love a good spa day!

You tend to teach in a lot of your vlogs- do you enjoy sharing your knowledge with others? Becki: We do! We learned by others sharing their knowledge so we thought why not pay it forward. We want to help the community learn and grow, and if they can learn something from us, that makes us happy.
Do you work with a crew or is it mainly you two doing the work? Becki: It’s just us! Both of us brain storm ideas, we film, and then I do the editing and uploading of the videos. I also then do all the promotion on social media.
