If I had to choose only one social media platform, it would have to be Instagram. I spend so (read too much) time scrolling through beautiful accounts. If you missed my video on Five Canadian Instagrammers you should follow, here it is. These gals give me major FOMO! Who doesn’t want to be in a monochromatic hip café in Toronto taking flatlays (I’m looking at you Joelle (La Petite Noob)? Alternatively, I also love wearing sweet feminine styles that only Marie Ernst can pull off. Maybe you want to play mermaid for the day and follow along with local makeup artist Jessika Petten and her brightly colored and striking transformations! While these ladies’ feeds are serious goals, there is no…

There isn’t much better than a grill cheese sandwich unless you up the ante and add some fancy cheeses, breads, and other interesting ingredients. If I have just piqued your interest and didn’t turn you away by my lame title, then you really should check out Lisa LeShane and Oh My Cheeses at the St. John’s Farmer’s Market (as well as several festivals throughout the province). Oh My Cheeses uses homemade bread, locally inspired jam and cheese to make their sandwiches and Lisa’s menu is just as clever as the name for her business. Oh My Cheeses came out of what Lisa calls “pizza nights”. “Basically, we’d make our own dough and then come up with fun pizza ideas,” she…

I love pizza just as much as the Ninja Turtles do so I think I know pizza. At some point during February, I passed by the old Stogger’s Pizza location and saw that a new pizza place was setting up shop. A few days later, my roommate sent me the link to their website via a Facebook message and I was intrigued and a few days after that I was kicking off the weekend with some take-out from Olio. It was right in the middle of the St. John’s Burger Battle but I wasn’t feeling it so much so I decided to spend my money on something I was pretty sure I would enjoy. According to their Facebook page, Olio…

The 2016 St. John’s Poutine Challenge: Part I- Challenge Accepted

in Arts & Culture by
IMG_20160616_111626_edit

By: Kristopher Smith Have you ever watched Survivor and been so sure you would bomb an Immunity challenge the second that Jeff describes the task at hand? For me this happens for pretty much any challenge that involves a puzzle. Now if the challenge involved the consumption of Canada’s delectable delicacy known as the poutine, I’d be all about it. Actually, that isn’t entirely accurate as I’m super picky and don’t really like trying new things which is why I didn’t partake in the 2015 St. John’s Poutine Challenge. I had heard about it last year, was excited but turned off when I saw some of the recipe. It was disappointing because at the time I was trying to branch…

Hunt for the Great Hot Chocolate: Jumping Bean

in Business/Parenting by
SubstandardFullSizeRender (2)

You all thought I forgot about my personal hunt for this fine capital’s best Hot Chocolate. Well, my very few readers, turns out I had not forgotten but I did other important things. I ate a lot of cheese, I hit some Netflix series hard, finished off a few books, mom’ed it up and worked. So pretty busy, I bet you all feel like fools now and pity my first world schedule with deep empathy.
