Matt Wright at LSPU Hall November 7th

This Friday, Matt Wright will be taking the stage for his second annual show at LSPU Hall. At 8 p.m. that evening, the standup comic will be having an hour-long show hosted by SuriusXM NL’s Top Comic Steve Coombs.

“He has been instrumental to getting me into standup and is a constant source of help. He’s doing well for himself. He’s great,” said Wright. The upcoming event showcases some new jokes, which makes Wright a little fearful. However, it’s nothing he hasn’t done before.

“Friday is a different set of material from the show last year. I am hoping to do the same thing again next year and the year after, just to challenge myself to stay fresh and active,” said Wright. “I am kind of terrified but a little excited. Mostly terrified. It’s a lot of stuff I wrote on the road.”

Matt Fardy will also be on the show, he mostly has an improv background but is just getting into the standup scene.

“He is doing really well. I do a lot of my writing with him and he works on The Lease with me,” explained Wright.

Wright and Fardy are working on The Lease with Deanne Foley. It is a mockumentary sitcom the three writers created and they are currently competing in the CBC Comedy Coup.

The Lease peaked interest after 20,000 people liked and shared a kijiji add of a man who was searching for a roommate to help split his mortgage after being dumped by a wench (as posted in the details). The mock posting was an introduction to the comedy featuring a hilarious combo of unlikely people who share a house after the owner has experienced some unfortunate circumstances.

The LSPU show features a sneak peak of The Lease. Wright, Fardy and Kim Drake are doing an improvised version of the series. “We will take some audience suggestions and just play around with it,” said Wright.
