News Round UP

in Features by
newfoundland news

If you hit up any Newfoundlander above the age of say 45, they know every ounce of this island’s history and all current news stories. Seriously, stop an old guy on the street and ask him why did “Clyde lie” and they will rant to you for a good hour and with accurate details that are factually correct.

Running the 89th Annual Tely 10 (AKA The 2016 St. John’s Poutine Challenge Part III- Why Did I Eat So Much Poutine?!)

in Features by

Three years ago, with my cousin whom I look at as a little sister, I ran the Tely 10. She got it in her head that it was something we should do. I hadn’t given it much thought despite being fairly physically fit for most of my university career but she was adamant that it was something we could do. So yes, I managed to try six out of the eighteen poutines (my roommate/bestie managed to squeeze one more in; we no longer live together). If anyone knows me they…

in Features by
finance-minister-cathy-bennett-budget-speech-cbc

I understand that we have all been discussing the budget and it’s affects on this province. I am sure every Newfoundland and Labradorian has heard numerous times, the ins and outs of the budget: the increase in HST, the gas price increase, the loss of baby bonus and the levy. I do not have to recite the tremendous cuts on the people of this province.

Best day of my Life

in Arts & Culture/Features by
crummey

In early fall of 2009, I was given the pleasure of interviewing  Michael Crummey. One may say it was the best day of my life but I have since been married and given birth, so I should just keep some thoughts to myself. He invited me into his house, gave me a strong cup of coffee and showed me the view from his completely original and creative living room. His kids popped their head out to say hello, and he sat and spoke as if the conversation was easy and swift and all those eloquent words just fell off his tongue. Meanwhile, I was sweaty, nervous, my brain was foggy and I cringed at every word I said and suddenly…
